Microneedling: A Closer Look at Skin Texture and Treatment Planning

Understand the device, the proposed products and recovery before your appointment.

Start with the concern

Texture, scars and the appearance of fine lines can prompt questions about microneedling. The procedure uses fine needles to create controlled skin punctures. Whether it is appropriate depends on your skin, the device, the treatment area and an individual assessment.

Ask about the exact treatment

Chelsea’s menu lists face microneedling at $400 and scalp microneedling at $350, both with “human stem cell therapy.” Ask for the precise product, ingredients and method of use. The menu label alone does not establish that live stem cells are used, prove hair-regrowth benefits or establish FDA approval.

Understand the limits

Some microneedling devices have FDA authorization for specific wrinkle and scar uses. The FDA has not approved microneedling devices for delivering cosmetics or other products into the skin. A device’s authorization does not automatically cover a product combination or every treatment area.

Discuss recovery in advance

Redness, sensitivity, bleeding and peeling may occur. Ask about other risks, the suitability of your skin-care routine, and the expected recovery for the proposed protocol. Share relevant conditions and medications. Follow the treating provider’s aftercare rather than using at-home rollers or homemade mixtures on recently treated skin. Contact Chelsea at Saint Rose to discuss the service.
